Beijing's Olympic plans hitting rough waters...

The Guardian posted an interesting article on the Chinese governments attempts to prepare for the upcoming Olympics in 2008 in light of the recent shooting death of a 17 year old nun.  It seems they are as determined as ever to fight "to the death" against His Holiness the Dalai Lama.  Details can be read here.

Stunning website redesign!

Looks like Rime Foundation has a new look for their website!  It's has been "under construction" over the past few weeks and has now gone live.  Rime Foundation is a local organization that supports translation projects in the Rime tradition and is currently hosting Khen Rinpoche Sherab Sangpo.  Khen Rinpoche is visiting the Twin Cities for 2 years and he will be teaching on a variety of topics.

Take a moment and check out the new Rime website...and be sure to check out their incredible links page...they've compiled a great list of resources to explore.

Rime Foundation is a non-profit organization that works very hard to promote all schools of Tibetan Buddhism.  If you are inspired to support them, you can donate easily right on their site...or simply click here.

Dalia Lama ends model spat.....

Read today on an Australian news site....

AUSTRALIAN supermodel Elle Macpherson is dropping her lawsuit against rival model Heidi Klum - after meeting the Dalai Lama.

Elle, 43, who has been known as "The Body" for years, was furious Heidi - 10 years her junior - launched a bra named The Body, claiming it was her nickname.

Elle initially decided to take legal action over the use of the name, but after meeting with the Buddhist spiritual leader she decided to halt her planned action and graciously share her nickname.

"A few people have made me stop in my tracks and the Dalai Lama would be one of them," she said.

It's amazing what an open view can do....

Ever wonder....

I've added a book list to this blog....they represent (mostly) the stack that's currently on my nightstand.  I have more but I'd hate to give anyone the impression that I'm actually reading all of them simultaneously...I do have a day job after all.  A book by Chogyam Trunpa Rinpoch or Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche are usually always there.  I finished Leaving Microsoft.... in one sitting last Sunday - It's great, read it now.  I'm currently reading small is the new big. I dig the way Seth Godin thinks so it's a keeper.

But then there is ever wonder.  Classified as Gift/Inspiration/Self-Help, it's one of the ones that you keep around to dip into now and then when you haven't given your brain enough to do...(insert loving sarcasm here).  The subtitle is - ask questions and live into the answers...

Here are a few to ponder:

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

If you think life is hard, what are you comparing it to?

How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?

(and finally...)

If you're not happy with what you have, how could you be happier with more?

Hmmm........

Dalai Lama to visit Pope

Posted today on Catholic World News-

Pope Benedict XVI will meet with the Dalai Lama in a private audience on October 13.

The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader will be in Rome to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Rome. At this meeting with the Holy Father he will be accompanied by several aides. Cardinal Paul Poupard, the president of the Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue, will also participate in the meeting.

The Dalai Lama, who has lived in exile since 1959, has been outspoken in his support for human rights and religious freedom, particularly in territory controlled by China-- causes that are also strongly supported by the Holy See.
